What you Need to know About Collagen: A Snapshot

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, with 28 different types.

In the skin it acts like a scaffolding, or support, providing skin with it’s structure and strength, giving youthful skin its lovely plump look.

You can see the strands of collagen in this video providing support to the skin as it builds up, plumping it out.

Cleverly, the body makes its own collagen!

Unfortunately this starts to decline as we get older. Production starts to dwindle in our mid-to-late 20s and early 30s and we start losing 1% of our collagen per year after that.

By age 40, collagen drops dramatically, which means we really start to see the signs of ageing - fine lines, wrinkles and dry, saggy skin.

The quality of collagen our bodies’ make is also of poorer quality as we age.

What can we do to boost our collagen levels?

  • Collagen supplements

  • A high protein, balanced diet

  • Have regular chemical peels & mesotherapy treatments. When carried out, they instigate a collagen-building response in the skin & work brilliantly to regenerate collagen
